What’s a moment you wish you could freeze and live in forever?

Right about now is a good time. I’m on a pretty short leash as it turns out so this is as good as any

  1. Late March, 1956, about 0700, a cornstubble field in central Indiana . . . a ’52 Chevy 2-door upside down about 50 feet away, all the glass broken and steam risin up outta the crumpled engine compartment . . .

A state trooper helping me to my feet while his partner works to extract the driver from the wreck . . . (he was in much worse shape than I was, facial lacerations, broken leg, broken fingers). Cars were MUCH sturdier in those days . . . and we were both teenagers.

Why relive that moment? I was alive, and shouldn’a been. In fact, not even bleeding . . . sore as hell the next day, tho. Really muddy, too. Ruined a perfectly fine heeksuede jacket.

‘Course there WAS that first time in a Sasebo bathhouse . . . kinda like to do that again.
