Who do you spend the most time with?
I’m almost always happy being by myself. I like others and I’m even married. Still, if I have the chance to be alone, I make that choice almost every time.

Since retiring at 70, I tend to spend more time with my dogs than with people.
Wife & I have been together since the early 60s and have discovered in our twilight years that although we love and respect each other, we really don’t enjoy doing things together any more.
We talk, of course, but it’s generally perfunctory/obligatory — stuff about kids, grandkids, routine decisions about whether to buy a new car or how many Franklins to toss around at Christmastime. We don’t even like the same foods any more — she’s a Southeast Asian and regressing to her childhood; I’m on a low-cholesterol, low salt, cardio-friendly diet — can’t handle the pork, the soy sauce, the fried stuff, the rice.
Dogs don’t worry ’bout that kinda stuff. All they want is reliable meals, fresh water, a dry place to sleep, squirrels and cats to chase, and a little reassurance from time to time in the form of a pat on the head or a fetch session in the back yard.
Dogs neither judge nor complain; their love is unconditional . . . unless you’re a total asshole.
