What is the best concert You Have been to?

Daily writing prompt
What is the best concert you have been to?

Look, I played Handel’s Messiah over 200 times. I know classical music, I’ve played everything from Rhapsody in Blue, Fugue in G minor, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Mozart and you name it. I’ve played them all

I also heard Charlie Daniels trying out The Devil Went Down To Georgia 6 months before He released it to see if the crowd would like it

Still, I enjoyed Robert Plant playing old Zeppelin tunes and Brad Paisley playing his greatest hits as much as anything. Rock N Roll, Trampled Under Foot, So Much Cooler Online, I’m Gonna Miss her were as much fun to listen to as anything.

Everyone likes their own style of music. I’m interested in what you guys like also.

  1. I’m definitely moved by the aria from Mme Butterfly (Un Bel Di) and get charged by the right guy doin “Largo al factotum della citta” from Il Barbiere di Siviglia. Still get a chill up my spine from “Spring” in Carmina Burana. Love Mozart, too, ‘specially “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.” Wagner, Vivaldi, Chopin . . . ver-r-r-y RE-laxin, n’est ce-pas? Brings the BP down as much as pettin a golden retriever.

As I usedta tell my students, you don’t hafta like ALL classical music to appreciate the genre, but if you aren’t moved by some of it, your soul is dead.

Prob’ly the most satisfying “concert” I ever attended was in a natural tree-lined hollow near a wide creek in central Indiana back around ’88 or so . . . coupla boxes of fried chicken, several bottles of cheap wine, no chairs — just blankets — and a buncha good ol’ boys in denim and Ts armed with banjos, acoustic guitars, fiddles, a dulcimer or two, coupla harmonicas, and one lady with a cello who could do Charlie Daniels and even “Orange Blossom Special” on it. Kinda weird, but she made it work.

Great night. Started around sundown (late summer) and finished around midnight when the guys got tired of doin repeats of “Cotton-Eyed Joe,” “Cripple Creek,” various stuff from Alabama such as “Play Me Some Mountain Music” and “Song of the South.”

Lotta weed got used, and somebody was gonna hafta pick up a lotta beer and wine bottles the next day, but nobody got seriously drunk, no fights, and no gunshots (although I wouldn’a been surprised, considering who was there . . . ’bout a hundred local rednecks, many of whom I actually knew or were cousins of mine).

Most memorable genuine concert I ever attended was around ’65 or so at the Cow Palace in SanFran, Dave Clark Five and another group I don’t remember the name of. Never went to another one while I was on active duty ‘cuz you could get stoned from all the weed and hash in the air. Feared I’d pop positive on a golden flow and ruin my retirement.
