I would love for my birthday to be ignored. She insists on making a bid deal of it.
I fought that battle for decades and, believe it or not, finally won. I don’t get Valentine’s Day cards or much else either. I just get what I want when I want it. I caught grief for that also, but I hammered it home that I didn’t want to have to go through that anymore. I, of course, have to make a big deal of anything of hers, but I care less and less and tone it down little by little each year. I told her she was doing more damage than good by doing this nonsense. It’s just another day for me.
Good luck, it was a long and painful battle, but now I get quiet on my birthday and get to buy my own present, something I actually want.
