What do you enjoy most about writing?

What I like best about writing is it forces me to slow down and makes me think about what I’m saying. Grammatically, I think my writing is a disaster sometimes, but many times I’ve been able to deal with a situation in my head through unspoken words only to me. When the time came for the conflict or resolution, I was practiced and ready.

Anybody who reads my blog knows that you’re gonna get a lot of introvert information from me. When I write, I’m not talking, and since 90 % of talking is small talk, it has reduced value for me.

  1. For written material to be useful, it must first be clear. It must have either meaningful content or entertainment value. And it must be relatable to its target audience.

To achieve all that, the writer must engage in style, planning, organization, revision, editing, and proofreading . . . all of which boil down to putting the brain to work; i. e., thinking.

Ergo, to me writing is a pastime serving the dual purposes of self expression (my “I am”ness) and cerebral calisthenics. Think of the brain as a muscle — if not used or exercised, it deteriorates and atrophies.

To keep mine sharp, I bump nouns, verbs, analogies, metaphors, rascally adverbs, and outrageous adjectives together into never-before-seen arrangements intended to inform, shock, amuse, or annoy readers.
