Well, aside from Roosevelt’s dying while still in office and the banner headlines reading “Dewey Defeats Truman” in ’48, the next significant even was meeting the woman who became my wife.
Stood there, calf-length brightly printed hoop skirt, plain peasant blouse with puffed sleeves, hands on hips, reading me the riot act in 3 different languages for some less-than-complimentary remark I’d dropped about the nose of one of her friends.
‘Twas 1961, and that woman has been following me around ever since and dropping babies periodically when I came back from a deployment.
Prolly what’s kept me alive, and clean, and well fed. Still occasionally Pinatubos all over the place, leaving barrages of Tarantado! s, Intremitido! s, Kontrabida! s, and Putangina!! s echoing through the house, ricocheting off the walls, disturbing my dogs, and mystifying our grandchildren.
