What motivates you?

What motivates you?

I don’t have to be motivated. It comes from within. I was born with a sense of responsibility that causes me to do what needs doing. I also prioritize it over other things because it is the right thing to do. That is life, work, and the stuff you have to do.

I think it comes from my father who always did a complete job until it was right. It rarely took him two tries

It’s why I never understood people who let things go

Now for stuff I want to do, I know that there is some sacrifice to become good at anything. It was that was for all of my avocations and is what keeps me healthy.

It’s the right thing to do, period.

  1. Bottom line:  When I do nothing, accomplish nothing of value, avoid a task I know needs doing,   the food isn’t satisfying, the drinks don’t taste good, and I have this sense of guilt like a pall on my attitude.

Decades of experience has taught me that if it needs be done, just get on with it, do it right, and don’t quit ’til it’s properly finished.

THEN the cold drink satisfies, the grilled stuff tastes good, my conscience doesn’t plague me, and I bask in a sense of accomplishment for having done something useful, even if it’s nothing more than trimming hedges, mowing the lawn, or washing a pair of 70-lb dogs and cleaning up the inevitable mess that creates.

Internal, borne of lifetime habit taught to me by the grandparents who raised me ’til I was 13.
