What Bothers You and Why?

What bothers you and why?

This goes like the line, how do I love you, let me count the ways. The list is endless and sometimes I feel like Clint Eastwood with, get off my lawn.

Rather than make a list, I’ll stick to my introverted life and go with small talk. Introverts have a low tolerance for conversation that isn’t meaningful or that isn’t going anywhere. When you are young, you might put up with it for a longer time or if there is a worthwhile reward (employment, sex, etc.). That reward is less as you move on in life.

Conversely, I love deep and engaging conversation, that is intellectually stimulating. Even then, there is a time limit and I need to recover.

I’ve learned to say yes, good, right, fine, good point, and anything that could end the conversation and not leave it open-ended.

  1. The reasons for Western Civilization’s obesity and ignorance pandemic:  Cellfones.

North America is fat, and shamefully out of shape.  Type II diabetes is on a hyperbolic rise, and everybody becomes an instant Wikipedia “expert” within moments of becoming aware of the crisis du jour.

Now, see . . . first of all, EVERYbody in North America who wants a burger, a pizza, a taco, a beer, a sugary drink — EVERYBODY — knows exactly where the nearest place is to get one.  NObody needs to be reminded to go get a footlong or a Big Mac or a Coke.

Eliminate TV and slick-paper advertisement of junk foods and the upward curve of diabetes cases will reverse.  Eliminate cellfones and a few kids MIGHT discover fresh air and exercise.

And although the national ignorance factor would be little affected (people would remain woefully uninformed and basically stupid), at least people wouldn’t be so UNinformed as to insist they know what the hell is going on in government, health care, defense, economics, immigration, racism, gender, and education when the truth is they’re being lied to constantly about everything.

Yeah . . . cellfones and commercials — really destructive to a society’s mental and physical well being.

  2. Correction: make that “UNinformed” in the paragraph beginning with “And” read “MISinformed.”
