What was your favorite subject in school?

I’d like to say that I was dedicated to a job goal in school, but I just tried to get good grades, like it or not. I was only interested in either getting into college or getting a job, but there wasn’t any subject that blew wind up my skirt.

I was small and the youngest kid in my class due to the birthday cut off, but I enjoyed PE class because it was a break from studying. It’s tough being the youngest and usually the smallest. Once I caught up to the other kids, I held my own and even kept up with the team athletes at the end.

It was the break from the monotony of class that made me enjoy it.

The valedictorian and salutatorian were in my chemistry class. They ruined the curve for everyone. The kids always messed with their experiments, and they could never figure out why they didn’t get the results that they were supposed to, although their write ups got them the A’s they strove for. Neither went anywhere in life.

The real smartest kid placed 3rd behind these two shrimp girls because he took weightlifting in PE and got a B, his only one ever. I give him credit for sticking his neck out in life. Straight A’s got a lot of people nowhere, but life lessons did.

Which brings me to my greatest learning in school. I had to try harder in everything. I was so young that social things, intuitive to others, were a hard learned lesson for me. It was tenacity over talent in everything. If I’d known that I was an introvert, I could have used my observation skills even more. What I did was just intuition back then.

So while it was the toughest subject for me, life was the class I studied the most. I had to figure everything out without someone to show me how. Like the Bob Seger song, I was working on mysteries without any clues. It was the best lesson I learned.

I wound up playing Tennis for my college, the only sport I made the team on. I was president of my fraternity and dated a cheerleader. None of that really mattered to me then. I expected it after all that I’d been through. I worked hard enough to get the job that opened doors to people and travel, and the success I’d defined for myself.

As it turns out, my 50th reunion was last weekend. I didn’t go because I never related to the other kids, or wanted to. They were just people I learned from, mostly what not to do or how to act.

At high school graduation, I vowed that I’d be more successful by any measurement. A few became actors, pro sports athletes, or a doctors here and there. As I’d come across their stories before I ditched Facebook, the pinnacle of life was high school for them. It was all downhill from there. I was just starting, but the seeds of motivation to succeed were planted and fertilized. I’d met my goal set way back in high school.

Life was the best class. It had nothing to do with the classroom.

I will say that my German teacher was hot and not that much older than me. Why didn’t they throw a high schooler a break like they do now?

In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, an Oklahoma State University student is going public after a school official reprimanded him for his support of the slain civil-rights leader, saying some people could be “triggered” simply because he wore a Turning Point USA hat with the number 47 on it.

Student Joshua Wilson is exposing the actions of Melisa Echols, OSU’s coordinator of student-government programs, who told him: “As a person who doesn’t look like you and has not had the same lived experience as you, I have family who don’t look like you who are triggered – and I will be very candid with you – who are triggered by those hats and by that side.”

While Wilson told Echols he understood her concerns, he didn’t believe wearing a Turning Point hat was partisan, and he rejected the claim it was somehow harmful to other students.

Echols at one point was angered that Wilson defended his stance.

“‘But’ cannot be the end of every statement. That’s not a learned lesson,” Echols said. “It cannot just be, ‘yes, but’ – cannot be every response that you give me. Otherwise, this year is going to be difficult for you.”

LibsofTikTok reports action has now been taken against Echols: “According to TPUSA, the staff member who reprimanded a student for honoring Charlie has been placed on administrative leave. Bye Bye.”

A new report confirms what millions of Americans had already known for years: Joe Biden’s Department of Education was weaponized against Christians, unleashing the full weight of the federal government to punish people of faith.

The Student Debt Racket – the predictable result of decades of government interference.

The vicious cycle is obvious. So why not stop raising the loan maximums? Because higher education is a $200+ billion industry. Even in the public university system, an entrenched bureaucracy is getting wealthy off high tuition. The corrupt cycle looks like this: university administrators and faculty unions donate to left-wing super PACs. In return, they ask for increased student loan limits and more federal grants under the banner of increasing “affordability” for students. Universities then raise tuition and funnel the new money into raises, administrative expansion, and campus construction projects. Then, faculty members continue indoctrinating students to vote for far-left candidates, and the racket continues.

Forbes article stated the following:

Between 1976 and 2018, full-time administrators and other professionals employed by those institutions increased by 164% and 452%, respectively. Meanwhile, the number of full-time faculty employed at colleges and universities in the U.S. increased by only 92%, marginally outpacing student enrollment which grew by 78%.”

University administrators are not using the increased tuition revenue to create smaller class sizes or improve student’s education. They are inflating the bureaucracy to create a colossal social justice organization.

Graduation now depends on ideological coursework; every student in the California State University system’s 23 campuses must take a class in ethnic studies or social justice. The point is twofold: indoctrinate students in radical leftist ideology and create education jobs for graduates with useless degrees like San Francisco State’s Social Justice Education program. It’s a pyramid scheme designed to enrich the academic elite and cement progressive dogma in the young professional class.

Universities are so effective at converting students into activists that the education system can’t even afford to employ them all. We have begun to see the private sector’s culture shift to placate the radical employees coming out of colleges. So many young adults have fallen under the spell of left-wing cultural ideology that an entirely new industry has appeared out of thin air. “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” training and consulting is now a $15 billion industry. Firms now feel obligated to create mandatory training programs under pressure from young employees. These consulting fees are nothing but tributes to activists in exchange for a “Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free” card in case an employee says something in public contrary to leftist social doctrine. While universities have succeeded at getting rich by indoctrinating students and poisoning our culture, they’ve also buried an entire generation in debt.

The AI Threat To Critical Thinking In Our Classrooms

I’ve always believed in teaching Critical Thinking over raising robots to fit into the system. I’m hoping Bocopro comments on this one because he taught a long time and saw this firsthand.

Technology has no place in kindergarten through eighth grade (K-8). Evidence abounds that learning through bookspencil and paper, and dialogue with real people builds the strongest foundation for learning and provides cognitive, emotional and practical benefits.

The expensive private Waldorf School of the Peninsula in the Silicon Valley, where technology executives send their kids, has ZERO technology in grades K-8. Their website says, “Brain research tells us that media exposure can result in changes in the actual nerve network in the brain, which affects such things as eye tracking (a necessary skill for successful reading), neurotransmitter levels, and how readily students receive the imaginative pictures that are foundational for learning.”

Antero Garcia, Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University, explains why he has grown skeptical about digital tools in the classroom: “Despite their purported and transformational value, I’ve been wondering if our investment in educational technology might in fact be making our schools worse.”

States like Ohio are now requiring artificial intelligence (AI) policies for all K-12 schools, and AI appears to be the latest technology fad for government-sponsored education.

Most government (public) schools have already morphed into digital-based learning centers, relegating teachers to facilitators, with no improvement in student achievement. But adding AI to the tech-driven education system poses a great threat to a child’s cognitive development and safety.

According to Harvard University, “Brains are built over time, from the bottom up. The brain’s basic architecture is constructed through an ongoing process that begins before birth and continues into adulthood. After a period of especially rapid growth in the first few years, the brain refines itself through a process called pruning, making its circuits more efficient.” These “use it or lose it” developmental phases of the brain happen in early childhood and through adolescence. If an adolescent depends on AI to think for his academic success, rather than his developing brain, his brain, and he will be shortchanged. Harvard says, “While the process of building new connections and pruning unused ones continues throughout life, the connections that form early provide either a strong or weak foundation for the connections that form later.”

The Hidden Cost Of Europe’s Free Education

My wife is Scandinavian. I’ve heard 3 decades of shit from them about free education, free medical, and free money if you can’t work or are going to school, or basically, if you are alive, you can suck off the system. There are a lot of illegals and goat herders who are getting free money also. Someone is paying for it.

The problem I point out is that their 70% tax rate is paying for this.

The other problem is that almost everyone in her family who got an operation had to either have it redone or had results that would be malpractice were it not socialized medicine.

Not all of her country finishes high school. So much for the education.

Even they don’t believe it is free anymore. Their argument couldn’t hold water as soon as I asked a couple of questions about how the economics work. They can be insufferable so the less we talk, usually the better, for me at least. You can only listen to so much shit before it gets old and it got old for me decades ago.

For all its accessibility, the reality of navigating these institutions can leave students feeling like just another number in a giant, bureaucratic machine.

When education is available to everyone, universities become packed. Lecture halls overflow, and personal contact with professors becomes rare. In many European countries, it is normal to attend classes with hundreds of other students. There is little space for discussion, feedback, or even questions.

You sit, you take notes, you pass or fail. It feels more like an assembly line than a place for learning. And the numbers explain why. In 2022, the European Union had 18.8 million students, about 7 percent of its total population, enrolled in tertiary education. In the United States, about 19.1 million people were enrolled in college during the 2024–25 academic year. In addition to similar enrollment figures, both the EU and the US have made higher education widely accessible. In the EU, where tuition is often free or heavily subsidized, higher education has been expanded to accommodate the majority. As of 2022, 44 percent of EU citizens aged 25–34 had completed a tertiary degree, compared to 50 percent in the US.

The two systems differ in structure. What sets these systems apart is not the number of students, but how education is delivered. European universities tend to rely on large lectures, rigid course pathways, and limited institutional competition. The result is a model built for efficiency over individualization. US institutions, by contrast, operate in a competitive, decentralized environment with a wider range of academic structures, including smaller colleges and more flexible program design.

When higher education is scaled to serve nearly everyone, as in much of Europe, it risks trading depth for throughput and personalization for administrative convenience. It works, but at the cost of treating education less as a journey and more as a bureaucratic process.

Starting Friday, federal student loans under the SAVE (“Saving on a Valuable Education”) repayment plan will begin accruing interest again. This affects approximately 7.7 million to 8 million borrowers, said federal stats  — interest had been paused during ongoing legal action.

Advocacy group estimates suggest this will cost the typical borrower around $3,500 per year in interest, which breaks down to about $300 extra per month on average, according to the Education Department. 

Courts invalidated key provisions of the SAVE program, including the zero‑interest feature. A court injunction requires loan servicers to begin charging interest again starting Friday.

The U.S. federal government suspended interest on student loans—and paused payments and collections—primarily due to the COVID‑19 emergency.

Americans’ trust in Ivy Leagues is tanking: poll

The once epitomized Ivy League institutions of higher education now garner little trust among the American public.

A new poll by the Manhattan Institute found that only 15 percent of voters have a great deal of trust in the elite universities, while 46 percent have little to no trust at all.

Most of those polled said they want to see reforms such as the elimination of diversity, equity, and inclusion and race-based admissions and programs.

Additionally, 64 percent “support requiring universities to advance truth over ideology by enforcing rigorous academic standards, controlling for academic fraud, requiring preregistration of scientific studies, and basing decisions on merit,” the poll found.

The public’s trust in public colleges and universities is a little higher, but not much.

According to the poll, 20 percent said they have a great deal of trust in these institutions, compared to 37 percent who had little to no trust.

“These results place Ivy League colleges among the nation’s least trusted institutions. They draw similar levels of distrust as the media—including newspapers (46% distrust) and TV news (47%)—the Supreme Court (40% distrust), and the Presidency (47%),” according to the institute.

Does ChatGPT harm critical thinking abilities? A new study from researchers at MIT’s Media Lab has returned some concerning results.

The study divided 54 subjects—18 to 39 year-olds from the Boston area—into three groups, and asked them to write several SAT essays using OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s search engine, and nothing at all, respectively. Researchers used an EEG to record the writers’ brain activity across 32 regions, and found that of the three groups, ChatGPT users had the lowest brain engagement and “consistently underperformed at neural, linguistic, and behavioral levels.” Over the course of several months, ChatGPT users got lazier with each subsequent essay, often resorting to copy-and-paste by the end of the study.

The paper suggests that the usage of LLMs could actually harm learning, especially for younger users. The paper has not yet been peer reviewed, and its sample size is relatively small. But its paper’s main author Nataliya Kosmyna felt it was important to release the findings to elevate concerns that as society increasingly relies upon LLMs for immediate convenience, long-term brain development may be sacrificed in the process.

“What really motivated me to put it out now before waiting for a full peer review is that I am afraid in 6-8 months, there will be some policymaker who decides, ‘let’s do GPT kindergarten.’ I think that would be absolutely bad and detrimental,” she says. “Developing brains are at the highest risk.”

Columbia U Is Next For Loss Of Accreditation

The United States Department of Education (DOE) determined that Columbia University has violated a federal civil rights law, the DOE said Wednesday in a press release.

The notification comes after the DOE opened an investigation into the University in February.

“The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) today notified Middle States Commission on Higher Education (the Commission) that its member institution, Columbia University, is in violation of federal antidiscrimination laws and therefore fails to meet the standards for accreditation set by the Commission,” the release said.

Why It Matters

Colleges without federal accreditation lose access to federal student aid, preventing millions of prospective and current students from getting the financial help they may need in order to be able to afford attendance.

Without accreditation, Columbia could also lose some of its respectability as an Ivy League university, potentially impacting enrollment and application numbers if the school cannot meet the standards for accreditation.

Harvard University’s links to China, long an asset to the school, have become a liability as the Trump administration levels accusations that its campus is plagued by Beijing-backed influence operations.

On Thursday the administration moved to revoke Harvard’s ability to enroll foreign students, saying it fostered antisemitism and coordinated with the Chinese Communist Party. Among them are Chinese nationals who made up about a fifth of Harvard’s foreign student intake in 2024, the university said.

A U.S. judge on Friday temporarily blocked the administration’s order after the Cambridge, Massachusetts, university sued.

The concerns about Chinese government influence at Harvard are not new. Some U.S. lawmakers, many of them Republicans, have expressed worries that China is manipulating Harvard to gain access to U.S. advanced technology, to circumvent U.S. security laws and to stifle criticism of it in the United States.

“For too long, Harvard has let the Chinese Communist Party exploit it,” a White House official told Reuters on Friday, adding the school had “turned a blind eye to vigilante CCP-directed harassment on-campus.”

Omar Sultan Haque, M.D., Ph.D., a Harvard researcher, penned a cri de cœur on his Substack arguing that Harvard has betrayed its very reason for being: the search for truth. 

The historic levels of grade inflation on campus also match levels of denial, insularity, truth-inflation, and ideological capture.  For instance, a shorter version of this heterodox essay you are reading at this moment was rejected by the Harvard Crimson. The well meaning editor told me they “didn’t feel this particular piece was a good fit at this particular time”. I wondered, when exactly would be a good time? Faculty job applicants already have to do diversity/DEI loyalty oaths, and students can’t speak their mind in an academic institution. 

Openness to dissenting voices and free inquiry are as rare at Harvard as is spotting the mythical dodo bird of the Ivy League in Harvard Yard: a student who is working class, conservative, religious, rural in origin, heterosexual, and believes their gender matches their biological sex.

Harvard’s motto is, famously, Veritas–Latin for “Truth.” Just like Pravda, come to think of it, and the modern Harvard is as dedicated to truth and the search for truth as Pravda was during the Soviet years. 

In contrast, a partisan think tank is explicitly factional and partial in its aims. There are many think-tanks in America that have explicitly partisan aims and practices, such as the Center for American Progress (liberal), Claremont Institute (conservative), Cato Institute (libertarian), Guttmacher Institute (pro-abortion).  Though intellectually oriented and often producing robust scholarship, these are not universities.  Consistent with their ideologies, these institutes tend to only ask a small range of all possible intellectual questions, and their answers are more predictable than not.  The Guttmacher Institute, for instance, rarely does a study on post-traumatic stress disorder and moral injury after abortions, and the Cato Institute rarely writes reports documenting the needs of the most vulnerable in society and how social safety nets could help.

Harvard, by these standards, is much more like a left wing progressive Institute, than it is a university. In its most passionate moral exhortations, Harvard resembles a secular ideological church. There are some quantitative pockets of flourishing, non-partisan academic life, but in general, Harvard does not live up to the values of a university, and is more like a think tank.

Columbia University’s recent decision to lay off nearly 180 staff members is a stark reminder of the real-world consequences of elitist posturing.

The cuts, reported by multiple outlets, including Fox News and NBC News, were prompted by the revocation of $400 million in federal grants under the Trump administration, highlighting the school’s stubborn refusal to adapt to reasonable demands. These staffers are paying the price for the school’s defiance, while the university’s leadership retreats to their gilded mansions unscathed.

The Trump administration’s mandate was clear: protect Jewish students from rampant anti-Semitism on campus, or lose federal funding. Columbia chose defiance, and now its employees are suffering. The school’s insistence on coddling Hamas sympathizers has cost it dearly, and the fallout is hitting those least responsible for the decision.

Columbia’s acting president, Claire Shipman, issued a statement that reeks of self-pity.

“This is a deeply challenging time across all higher education, and we are attempting to navigate through tremendous ambiguity with precision, which will be imperfect at times,” she said.

Ambiguity? There’s nothing ambiguous about Trump’s directive. Stop the anti-Semitism, and you’re fine. Columbia’s leadership chose to play a stupid game, and now they’ve won a stupid prize.

Survey Finds Many Americans Hold Negative Views of the Ivies

A new survey by the University of Chicago Project on Security and Threats found that a significant portion of the American public holds negative views about Ivy League universities and believe campus antisemitism is an important issue.

The survey was fielded by the university’s research organization, NORC, from May 1 to May 5, and included 2,131 American adults. It found that 45 percent of respondents see campus antisemitism as a “serious” or “very serious” issue. Among Republicans, the share was 54 percent, compared to roughly 40 percent of Democrats and 32 percent of Independents.

Meanwhile, 28 percent of respondents said they view Ivy League universities like Harvard and Yale as the “enemy.” A larger share of Republicans, about 47 percent, hold that sentiment, compared to about 11 percent of Democrats and roughly 30 percent of Independents. But 47 percent of Democrats said they were unsure, while 31 percent said they’d characterize Ivies as a “friend.”

Only a quarter of those surveyed believe the federal government should defund Ivy League institutions, similar to a finding in a recent report by the Associated Press–NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Secretary of Education Linda McMahon announced that Harvard will no longer be eligible for new grants after rejecting the Trump administration’s resolution proposal.

The Department of Education (ED) sent a letter to the Ivy League university on Monday alleging Harvard is engaged in a “systemic pattern of violating federal law” and notifying the university of its inability to receive federal funding. The violations cited include a failure to adhere to civil rights laws by illegally using race as a factor for admission decisions and failing to protect Jewish students on campus.

“Harvard University, despite amassing a largely tax-free $53.2 billion dollar endowment (larger than the GDP of 100 countries), receives billions of dollars of taxpayer largess each year,” the letter reads. “Harvard will cease to be a publicly funded institution, and can instead operate as a privately-funded institution, drawing on its colossal endowment, and raising money from its large base of wealthy alumni.”

The letter, also posted to X by the secretary, reprimands the Ivy League school for accepting foreign students into the school who go on to “engage in violent behavior and show contempt for the United States of America.” The administration has made its stance on foreign students who espouse anti-American views clear, demanding in a previous letter that Harvard review its process for recruiting and admitting international students. Several foreign students who engaged in violent antisemitic protests at other universities have already been deported.

“Of the 3,100 or so billionaires in the world, there’s only about 30 in this book [Controligarchs] … People like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, George Soros … and his son Alex Soros – these guys use their wealth to do not-so-great things,”  Bruner told host of First Things Mark Bauerlein.

He crunched the numbers and found that these billionaires, in some cases, have doubled their net worth since the beginning of 2020.  “Mark Zuckerberg went from $60 billion or so to almost $120 billion today through the pandemic because everyone was locked down, stayed at home and was scrolling through Facebook … and Jeff Bezos close to doubled his net worth,” he said.

It’s not surprising that while small businesses were closed and schools were closed, etc., online businesses would soar.  But what is surprising is Bill Gates and his takeover of farmland.

“They used the pandemic, in the words of Klaus Schwab the World Economic Forum founder, as an opportunity.  The pandemic was an opportunity to rejigger society and ‘build back better’ in a ‘greener’ way,” Bruner said. (Schwab just resigned as head on Monday under allegation of misuse of funds at the WEF)

“People didn’t really understand in July 2020 when Klaus Schwab announced ‘The Great Reset’ what a pandemic had to do with climate change. But we’re starting to see that ‘climate change’ is just the next crisis they want to leverage as an opportunity to not just get richer but to construct systems of tyrannical control.”

The systems of tyrannical control, Bruner explained, include food control, energy control, electric vehicles, cell or mobile phones, the Internet of Things, smart cities and financial control.

Controligarchs are Depopulationists

The inaugural meeting of the Good Club took place in 2009 at Rockefeller University in Manhattan, New York.  The Good Club is the name given to the tiny global elite of billionaire “philanthropists.”  Some of the members are familiar figures such as Bill Gates, George Soros, Warren Buffett, Oprah Winfrey, David Rockefeller and Ted Turner. But there are others, too, like business giants Eli and Edythe Broad, who are equally wealthy but less well known. All told, at the time its members were worth $125bn.

“Bill Gates, George Soros and David Rockefeller are kind of like the three co-hosts [of the first meeting of the Good Club],” Bruner said. “They invited half a dozen or a dozen of their billionaire buddies … They all got together in the spring of 2009.”

“The context is the tail end of the global financial crisis … they could sense that the ‘peasants’ were about to get unruly … The other part [of the context] is that Barack Obama has just been elected president [and] a lot of people at the Good Club meeting in New York had done a lot to get him there, George Soros especially, so they wanted to leverage the Obama opportunity to their advantage.”

At this meeting, Bill Gates suggested that they find an umbrella cause that they could unite their resources around to solve. They could have picked, for example, malaria, poverty, starvation or climate change as causes to unite their resources around.  But “this meeting was all about solving the problem, in their minds, of overpopulation,” Bruner said. The Good Club is all about pouring money into projects that ensure there are fewer people in the world. “Their way of helping humanity is to make sure there is less of it,” Bruner said.

“Most of these [Controligarchs] in this book are sort of these Malthusian, overpopulation types who think that the Earth is overpopulated … That’s a myth, it’s never been proven conclusively that the world is overpopulated. 

“There’s a lot of evidence to the contrary, that [the world] can hold a lot more people than [today’s 8 or 9 billion].  Bill Gates says we need to cut that by 15%.  Ted Turner, the founder of CNN, is a little more extreme – he thinks that under 2 billion is the ideal population of the planet.  Other World Economic Forum agenda setters, Jane Goodall … says closer to 500 million.  They haven’t publicised what they think is the ideal total global population should be but it’s a lot less, billions less.”

Controligarchs are Heavily Invested in Digital IDs

Bill Gates is heavily invested in digital identities (“IDs”) through various projects for digitising and creating central databases that hold every piece of information about us, Bruner said.

In 2016, the UN held its inaugural ID2020 Summit to discuss how to provide a unique digital identity to everyone on the planet by the year 2020.  In 2017, Accenture partnered with Microsoft and Avanade to provide blockchain and biometric technologies to support ID2020.  In 2019, Microsoft joined the ID2020 Alliance.

“All the Big Tech, all the Controligarchs, as I call them, poured their money into ID2020,” Bruner said.  “And the supranational organisations – the World Health Organisation and the United Nations – were all very on board with this … digital IDs would be a great way to keep track of people’s vaccination records – they said this before the pandemic,” Bruner said.

“This digital ID can essentially become like a Chinese-style social credit score where if you are in the wrong caste of society – you’re among the unvaccinated, let’s say –  you’re not going to be able to access goods and services … If you don’t comply with some government mandate … your digital ID will block entry for you.”

In November 2023, the 50-in-5 campaign was launched.  It aims to implement digital public infrastructure in 50 countries by 2028.  Digital public infrastructure is an underlying network of components such as digital payments, ID, and data exchange systems, which is a critical accelerator of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (“SDGs”). 50-in-5 is a “country-led” advocacy campaign in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

“We are just around the corner from this becoming not an optional thing,” Bruner said.

“These people have like a god complex but on steroids,” he added.

Ivy League Fatigue: Harvard Is Now Offering Remedial Math Courses

The Harvard losers can’t even do math. It’s what happens when you go woke (among the many reasons). This is supposed to be an elite institution of learning. Instead, it is an indoctrination center for the left.

Harvard: where the U.S. sends it’s best, it’s brightest and…it’s remedial math students?

That seems to be the case as social media has been abuzz in recent days over the university’s choice to offer a new Math course, called MA5, heading into the new year. The Harvard Crimson first wrote about the introduction of the new course back in September of last year, but discussion over the course has caught fire on X in recent days.

The course is called Math MA5, and it is an introductory course addressing gaps in students’ algebra skills, according to Brendan A. Kelly, Director of Introductory Math.

Which begs the question: why are students getting into Harvard incapable of doing algebra, which generally starts in junior high or high school?

Running alongside Math MA and MB, MA5 will have a five-day schedule, with students meeting “one of two instructors all five days” for “a variety of different activities” on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the Crimson wrote last year. 

Kelly cited the Covid-19 pandemic as a factor in students’ struggles, saying, “The last two years, we saw students who were in Math MA and faced a challenge that was unreasonable given the supports we had in the course.” The goal is to “create a course that really helps students step up to their aspirations.” 

While structured differently, MA5 will align with Math M. “Math MA5 is actually embedded in Math M,” Kelly said. “They’ll have the same psets, they’ll have the same office hours, they’ll have MQC, they’ll take the same exams… So if you’re in MA5, you will experience Math M.”

The Crimson says that freshmen placing into Math MA or 1A had to take an additional skills check to guide enrollment recommendations.

Kelly said the department “investigated a number of different strategies” before deciding to enhance Math M rather than add a prerequisite. “What we thought was the best thing to do… was to add more time and support into MA for students who would need it.”

The goal is to help students overcome early challenges. “If the first one doesn’t go well, it can really make these lasting waves in their pathways,” Kelly said. “We want to make sure that students are on a path to success starting from their first day.”

Obama made the remarks during an appearance this week on the Not Gonna Lie podcast with Kylie Kelce, asserting that her decision to make a difference with school lunches — and her overall “Let’s Move” initiative — was “strategic” in nature.

“I was trying to be strategic about aligning my agenda with something that was important to the West Wing. And I thought, ‘There’s no way that anyone is going to take issue with trying to make school lunches healthier, getting kids more active,’” she said.

The wife of former President Barack Obama then appeared to try and take credit for more recent nutrition-related statements made by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., claiming that she said “the same things” during her school lunch initiative, which launched in 2010.

“Just trying to make the next generation healthier than ours and, boy, was I wrong, which is really interesting in these times with the current Secretary of Health and Human Services [Robert F. Kennedy Jr.] who is now saying some of the same things that I was saying,” Obama said.

She ultimately blamed the controversy on partisan differences. “It became a partisan issue. People were telling me that I’m trying to be the ‘nanny state’ and I’m trying to control what our kids are eating. And telling them what’s good for them and what’s not good for them.”

However, the former first lady maintained that her team achieved its goals with her program. She argued that they improved nutrition standards and factors such as “labels so that they were more readable, so that people’s parents could really understand the breakdown of fat and sugar. And it was clear we got the school nutrition standards improved in our schools for the first time in, like, 50 years.”

Obama’s school lunch initiative garnered a flood of negative attention. Many students posted photos online of their unappetizing meals after its rules were implemented. President Donald Trump worked to expand the overly restrictive program by bringing items such as chocolate milk back to the table during his first term in 2017.

According to WNBC in New York, officials at Columbia University in New York City have finally announced punishments for an unspecified number of students who forcibly occupied a building on campus last April as part of pro-Palestinian protests against the war in Gaza.

During those protests, a group of students used furniture and padlocks to barricade themselves inside Hamilton Hall.

The Columbia Daily Spectator, the university’s student newspaper, cited a social media post from a campus organization indicating that the university had suspended, expelled, or revoked the degrees of 22 students in total.

Of course, the announcement of these punishments occurred amid — surprise, surprise — rising tensions on the Ivy League campus.

#1 The Lab Leak Theory

For years, we were told that the lab leak theory was just “disinformation”.  Of course now it has come out that certain individuals in very prominent positions waged a relentless campaign to discredit it.  They were desperate to keep a lid on what really happened, but now the truth has come out.  In fact, at this point even the CIA is publicly admitting that it is more likely than not that the lab leak theory is accurate…

The CIA has shifted its stance about the origin of the virus that causes Covid-19, NBC News reported on Saturday. The intelligence agency now believes that the coronavirus escaped from a Chinese lab, a shift from its previous stance, in which it did not take a position.

“CIA assesses with low confidence that a research-related origin of the COVID-19 pandemic is more likely than a natural origin based on the available body of reporting,” a CIA spokesperson said in a statement to NBC News.

For ages, authorities insisted that putting fluoride in our drinking water was good for us.  But now a federal judge has ruled that there is evidence that fluoride in the water could harm the intellectual development of our children.  The following comes from CNN

A federal judge has ordered the US Environmental Protection Agency to further regulate fluoride in drinking water because high levels could pose a risk to the intellectual development of children.

US District Judge Edward Chen cautioned that it’s not certain that the amount of fluoride typically added to water is causing lower IQ in kids, but he concluded that mounting research points to an unreasonable risk that it could be. He ordered the EPA to take steps to lower that risk, but didn’t say what those measures should be.

Over the past several years, the mainstream media has actually begun reporting on all of the nasty things that are showing up in the water that is coming out of our taps.

  • Contaminants included arsenic; radioactive materials, such as uranium and radium; and disinfectant byproducts, which are substances produced when chlorine and other additives are used in the treatment process.
  • Systems that rely on groundwater sources, such as aquifers, have higher concentrations of arsenic and radioactive materials and contribute to a higher risk of cancer.
  • Systems that rely on surface water sources, such as reservoirs, have a lower risk, but serve larger populations.
  • Water systems where droughts are more common may pose a higher risk, in part because drier conditions create an environment where contaminants become concentrated as water levels are reduced.

In a covert affair originally dubbed Operation Overcast but later renamed Operation Paperclip, roughly 1,600 of these German scientists (along with their families) were brought to the United States to work on America’s behalf during the Cold War. The Department of Education (DOE) is canceling more than $100 million in grants to fund diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training as part of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) sweep of “wasteful” spending.

DOGE, the department led by Elon Musk to cut costs within the federal government, announced the termination of 89 DOE contracts totaling $881 million in a post on X Monday night.

Of the nearly $1 billion, DOGE identified $101 million that was being used for DEI training, including teaching educators to “help students understand/interrogate the complex histories involved in oppression, and help students recognize areas of privilege and power on an individual and collective basis.”

“Your tax dollars were spent on this,” Musk wrote of the DOE spending.

According to DOGE, the education department spent another $1.5 million on a contractor to “observe mailing and clerical operations” at a mail center, which was also terminated in the recent spending sweep.

“DEI was never about ‘equity’—it was about enforcing ideological conformity and institutionalizing discrimination. Shutting down these wasteful, divisive programs is a win for every student,” Nicki Neily, founder and president of Parents Defending Education, said in response to the spending cut.

“More states need to follow suit,” Neily said.

Erika Donalds, wife of Republican Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida, also wrote in response that “the kids can’t read.”

Communist countries had special educational accommodations for those they considered “underprivileged,” based on class and ideological fealty. These accommodations included the so-called “workers’ faculty,” where “proletarian” students received accelerated college degrees while meeting much lower standards than the general population. Intelligent and talented children from families that suffered persecution by the regime were frequently denied college admission.

Furthermore, universities offered sizable acceptance quotas for the offspring of the so-called “active fighters against fascism and capitalism,” a/k/a communist nomenklatura, whose admission took precedence over that of regular students. The preferential quota students were secretly dubbed “paratroopers,” in reference to being “dropped” at universities from above, as though by parachutes, instead of passing the rigorous entrance examinations.

Needless to say, such practices engendered cynicism, hostility, and an exacerbated sense of unfairness. The government’s excuse, was, of course, correcting past “injustices” and providing opportunities for the “working class.” This was accomplished by creating new, much more severe forms of discrimination, exclusion, and injustice.

Leftist ideologues aspire to transform America into some feel-good socialist utopia, despite the horrendous track record of socialism. They learn from communist theory and practice and constantly adapt various failed concepts to present reality, in order to achieve their radical goals of dismantling Western tradition. They try to “divide and conquer” by producing ever-changing categories of social “victimhood.” The class quotas and discriminatory practices of communist universities were reimagined as DEI policies in the West.

Over the past 30 years, I have had the distinct pleasure and honor of teaching and supervising numerous brilliant students and interns, who happened to be of extremely diverse backgrounds. Invariably, the best predictor of their success was their work ethic, values, and character—not the ethnic or social category they belonged to.

In addition to the legal and moral problems presented by DEI discrimination, such policies take a grave psychological toll. Those who are labeled “DEI hires” often resent being treated as insufficiently capable. They wish to be judged based on individual merits, not on some unearned collective virtue. On the other hand, those excluded from the newly privileged “victim” groups, as designated by intersectionality ideologues, suffer the psychological damages of racial and social discrimination despite their hard work and skills.

Trying to enforce utopian perfection can only lead to misery and violence. Churchill aptly defined socialism as “the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy,” whose “inherent virtue” was the “equal sharing of miseries.” As Alan Kors, a distinguished professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania remarked, “No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power.” And furthermore,

Why To Kill The DOE – A Half Century of Miseducation

They’ve turned out robots instead of critical thinkers. They are restricting school choice, harming millions of kids. Not one accomplishment on behalf of the students since it was created. The NEA and Teachers Unions are going strong and pay themselves well for incompetence though.

The New York Times reported December 4 that math and science test scores for U.S. fourth and eighth graders have been essentially stagnant since 1995. Nor have they have been stagnant near the top — lots of countries outrank us — but rather in the middling middle. American elementary/middle school students perform behind Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, England, Ireland, and Poland.

“’This is alarming,’” opined a Department of Education commissioner.

Yes, it is, but perhaps not just for the reasons the article identifies.

The spin of the article is that scores are down and American kids have lost significant ground as a result of the pandemic. Author Dana Goldstein says the results corroborate “a large body of research showing significant academic declines since the Covid-19 pandemic began.” “Experts are debating potential causes,” reports Goldstein, including maybe the fact that American public schools were shuttered comparatively longer than in other countries.

Let me argue that spin is far too limited and selective.

While the “experts” debate, American kids continue to move through the public-school industry, advanced perhaps more for social promotion than mastery of skills. Eventually, they’ll hit college where freshman year will be spent in math remediation before they can undertake a required general education math or science course. I know. I worked as an associate dean at a private, tuition-driven Catholic university. One year, a fifth of the freshman class was in math remediation prior to regular college-level math classes.

You can argue the young people shouldn’t be admitted and it’s not a college’s role to make up deficiencies in elementary and secondary schooling. But somebody’s got to do it. These kids relied on what their schools told them, credentialing them with diplomas after going through multiple “proficiency tests” (that more often were “teaching to the test” than teaching). At some point, somebody’s actually got to teach them.

The Art Of Memorization – What Today’s Education Fails To Teach And How To Improve It

•Academic success is primarily based on one’s ability to memorize material. Unfortunately, the educational system rarely teaches students how to do that.

•Effective learning requires actively rather than passively engaging with the required material and being conscious of what is going on inside your body and mind so that you can determine which approaches are correct for you.

•Many of the same factors that determine overall health and neurological health (e.g., a healthy sleep cycle and adequate circulation throughout the body) also directly influence your capacity to study and memorize.

•In this article, I will review the various approaches and supplements that we have found to be the most helpful in improving memory retention and supporting academic success (along with increasing the lucidity of dreams if taken right before bed).

The primary mechanism our society uses to determine one’s eventual wealth and place in the social hierarchy is their academic performance. As such, many put forward an incredible sustained effort to succeed at each rung of the academic ladder, and in many cases, at the urging of their parents, begin that effort from a very young age. However, while a variety of justifications exist for the society adopting this convention, there are also major issues with it, such as:

•Far too many who go through it and put in a sustained effort to “succeed” end up with nothing to show for it.

•Because education has essentially established a monopoly on moving up the social ladder (which forces everyday citizens to participate in its rat race), it has no incentive to provide quality education to those it trains—particularly since unconditional federal support (e.g., student loans) subsidizes education and is allotted based on how many students attend each institution, not the quality of the education offered.

•Education primarily focuses on telling you what to do, not how to do it. As a result, those with inherent talent do much better than their peers, whereas many of those who simply try to do what they are told to do fall short regardless of how much effort they put in.

•By making people believe they need to be “taught to learn” through copying what the teacher does rather than encouraging the natural learning capacity of each student to emerge, the educational process makes students lose their inherent ability to learn or think critically.

America’s Largest And Most Expensive DEI Program Is About To Go Up In Flames

Look at the money being waisted on salaries for worse race relations. This has got to go.

The University of Michigan’s (UM) multi-million dollar diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) program may soon be dismantled.

The university’s board of regents has reportedly asked UM president Santa Ono “to defund or restructure” the DEI office amid growing criticism and public pressure, according to emails shared on X. The board is expected to vote on the matter on Dec. 5.

Despite UM investing $250 million into DEI since 2016, students and faculty have reported a deteriorating campus climate since the program began and are less likely to interact with people of a different race, religion or political ideology, though these are “the exact kind of engagement[s] D.E.I. programs, in theory, are meant to foster,” the article stated. Attempts to create a more diverse campus also fell flat, with black enrollment at the university remaining a steady 5%.

The program also created a “culture of grievance,” with the office’s conception coinciding with an “explosion” of complaints on campus involving race, gender and religion, the NYT reported. Meanwhile, nearly 250 university employees were engaged in some form of DEI efforts on campus.

DEI staff cost the university approximately $30.68 million annually, with the average salary reaching $96,400, according to Mark Perry, an American Enterprise Institute scholar. Several DEI employees are paid more than $200,000 a year, while the department’s head makes upwards of $400,000.

Cornell University students can take a course on “Queer Marxism” next semester that asks questions such as “Are queer theory and Marxism truly irreconcilable.” 

The course description stated that the course will compare two visions of society that many have thought could not be joined. 

“While queer studies emerged in part as a rejection of Marxism’s totalizing approach and Marxists have criticized the queer emphasis on individuals, this seminar explores the potential of bringing the two fields together,” it says. 

The course will not explore this possible union of the two theories by one taking over the other. Students will study a dual influence, examining the effect of one theory on the other, and vice versa.

“We will consider how queer critiques of reproductive futurism, racial capitalism, and homonationalism can transform the legacy of Marxist theory and practice,” the description says. “At the same time, we will examine Marxist notions of totality, reification, and value to re-envision the scope of queer politics.”

Students will further examine the principles of queer and marxist theory as they manifest in historical examples. “After covering these key Marxist and queer theoretical concepts, the seminar will turn to transnational Marxist debates on gender and sexuality in Weimar Germany and the Soviet Union,” the course says. 

The university’s Feminist, Gender & Sexuality Studies Program is offering Queer Marxism. The program’s mission is to “to address some of the most important issues the world faces today,” particularly “by offering students the opportunity to study a wide range of fields from the perspectives of feminist and LGBTQIA critical analysis, in global and local contexts and with the purpose of promoting social justice.”

Good riddance. They were the poison on both social media and at their schools.

Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, or X as it’s now called, has brought an abrupt shift in the dynamics of the platform. For years, X functioned as an echo chamber where progressive academics freely exchanged ideas, often without much opposition. It was an exclusive club, and Musk’s open-door policy shattered it. With censorship dialed back and banned accounts reinstated, Musk’s version of free speech drove many academics away, leading to a marked decrease in engagement among their ranks.

An article titled The Vibes Are Off: Did Elon Musk Push Academics Off Twitter ? documents this retreat. It shows a significant drop in activity, especially among verified users, following Musk’s acquisition. Emphasis below is mine.

This article addresses a narrower empirical question: What did Elon Musk’s takeover of the platform mean for this academic ecosystem? Using a snowball sample of more than 15,700 academic accounts from the fields of economics, political science, sociology, and psychology, we show that academics in these fields reduced their “engagement” with the platform, measured by either the number of active accounts (i.e., those registering any behavior on a given day) or the number of tweets written (including original tweets, replies, retweets, and quote tweets). We further tested whether this decrease in engagement differed by account type; we found that verified users were significantly more likely to reduce their production of content (i.e., writing new tweets and quoting others’ tweets) but not their engagement with the platform writ large (i.e., retweeting and replying to others’ content).

The data points to a familiar pattern: when left-leaning narratives lose control of the conversation, proponents either cry foul or flee​. Now, if you combine this exodus with the insights from Mitchell Langbert’s 2018 study on the political affiliations of elite liberal arts college faculty, the story becomes even clearer.

Langbert’s study from 2018, Homogenous: The Political Affiliations of Elite Liberal Arts College Faculty, reveals a staggering imbalance: liberal arts faculties are overwhelmingly Democratic, with many departments having zero registered Republicans. Across 51 colleges, the average Democratic-to-Republican ratio was 10.4:1. Excluding the two military colleges in the sample (West Point and Annapolis), the ratio jumped to 12.7:1. In the most ideologically driven fields, like gender and peace studies, there were no Republicans to be found​.

Why Political Homogeneity Is Troubling

Political homogeneity is problematic because it biases research and teaching and reduces academic credibility. In a recent book on social psychology, The Politics of Social Psychology edited by Jarret T. Crawford and Lee Jussim, Mark J. Brandt and Anna Katarina Spälti, show that because of left-wing bias, psychologists are far more likely to study the character and evolution of individuals on the Right than individuals on the Left.2 Inevitably affecting the quality of this research, though, George Yancey found that sociologists prefer not to work with fundamentalists, evangelicals, National Rifle Association members, and Republicans.3 Even though more Americans are conservative than liberal, academic psychologists’ biases cause them to believe that conservatism is deviant. In the study of gender, Charlotta Stern finds that the ideological presumptions in sociology prevent any but the no-differences-between-genders assumptions of left-leaning sociologists from making serious research inroads. So pervasive is the lack of balance in academia that more than 1,000 professors and graduate students have started Heterodox Academy, an organization committed to increasing “viewpoint diversity” in higher education.4 The end result is that objective science becomes problematic, and where research is problematic, teaching is more so.

Only 8% of faculty will vote for Trump: survey

Professors will overwhelmingly vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the coming weeks, according to a new survey.

Inside Higher Ed surveyed more than 1,000 professors, mostly “tenured or tenure track,” and found significant support for the Democratic presidential ticket.

“Seventy-eight percent support Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz, while only 8 percent of the respondents back Donald Trump and JD Vance, according to the survey, which has a 2.9 percent margin of error,” the publication reported.

“But while their personal support for Democrats was overwhelming, almost no respondents said they plan to tell students which party or candidate to vote for,” Inside Higher Ed reported.

Most respondents said they keep their personal political beliefs out of the classroom. Only four percent said they would tell students who to vote for, but 30 percent plan to “discuss the election” in class.

Columbia’s Student Protesters Really Have Embraced Hamas – these are the real modern day Nazi’s

I touched on this earlier this week when Columbia’s anti-Israel group, Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD), held a walkout/protest on the anniversary of 10/7, but I think it probably deserves more attention. 

You may remember this guy, Khymani James, one of the student organizers at Columbia who made news earlier this year when a video circulated of him saying, “Zionists, along with all white supremacists, need to not exist.” He added, “Be glad, be grateful that I’m not just going out and murdering Zionists.”

After this made news in April, James was suspended and CUAD put out a statement, apparently from James himself, apologizing for his comments.

“CUAD
and the Gaza Solidarity Encampment have made clear that my words in
January, prior to my involvement in CUAD, are not in line with the CUAD
community guidelines. I agree with their assessment,” the apology read.
“Those words do not represent CUAD. They also do not represent me.”

This
week, CUAD reversed course, not only saying it regretted its earlier
statement but making it plain that the group supports violence, i.e. it supports Hamas.

The
pro-Palestinian group that sparked the student encampment movement at
Columbia University in response to the Israel-Hamas war is becoming more
hard-line in its rhetoric, openly supporting militant groups fighting
Israel and rescinding an apology it made after one of its members said
the school was lucky he wasn’t out killing Zionists.

“We support
liberation by any means necessary, including armed resistance,” the
group, Columbia University Apartheid Divest, said in its statement
revoking the apology.The group marked the anniversary of the Oct.
7 attack on Israel by distributing a newspaper with a headline that
used Hamas’s name for it: “One Year Since Al-Aqsa Flood, Revolution
Until Victory,” it read, over a picture of Hamas fighters breaching the
security fence to Israel. And the group posted an essay calling the
attack a “moral, military and political victory” and quoting Ismail
Haniyeh, the assassinated former political leader of Hamas.




Hamas’ goal is to kill Jews, civilian or otherwise, and drive them
from the land. This is what “from the river to the sea” has always
meant. Now the group which ran the Columbia protests and inspired
similar protests around the country is flat out saying they support the same thing.

Nicholas Dames has taught Literature Humanities, Columbia University’s required great-books course, since 1998. He loves the job, but it has changed. Over the past decade, students have become overwhelmed by the reading. College kids have never read everything they’re assigned, of course, but this feels different. Dames’s students now seem bewildered by the thought of finishing multiple books a semester. His colleagues have noticed the same problem. Many students no longer arrive at college—even at highly selective, elite colleges—prepared to read books.

This development puzzled Dames until one day during the fall 2022 semester, when a first-year student came to his office hours to share how challenging she had found the early assignments. Lit Hum often requires students to read a book, sometimes a very long and dense one, in just a week or two. But the student told Dames that, at her public high school, she had never been required to read an entire book. She had been assigned excerpts, poetry, and news articles, but not a single book cover to cover.

“My jaw dropped,” Dames told me. The anecdote helped explain the change he was seeing in his students: It’s not that they don’t want to do the reading. It’s that they don’t know how. Middle and high schools have stopped asking them to.

Why People Fell For The Covid-19 Scam – A Lack Of Critical Thinking

  • Many important types of intelligence besides “intellectual intelligence exist.” Without them, we cannot connect to our deeper wisdom and are easily lead astray. Likewise, if our intelligence remains unbalanced, our knowledge will almost always be patchy and incomplete
  • A century ago, American education was hijacked by oligarchs like Rockefeller who replaced cultivating critical thinking and deep knowledge with training widespread compliance
  • Education trains us to have a very linear form of intelligence which often misses critical details because it lacks the ability to see the broader picture. This for instance characterizes many problems in medicine
  • Those trained to have excessive left brain thinking are often challenging to have a dialog with because they are both aggressive in asserting their ideology and simultaneously incapable of seeing anything which does not prove they are right
  • This article will discuss the importance of balanced intelligence and strategies for cultivating it

Over the last century, there’s been a systematic dismantling of the educational system as its focus shifted from creating an empowered electorate to producing subservient citizens who only existed to fill their pre-designated societal roles. To illustrate:

• In 1903 John D. Rockefeller founded the General Education Board,1 which over the decades (with Carnegie’s foundation) gave billions to schools around the country until in 1973, the Department of Education was created. These foundations reshaped American Education,2 transforming it from a locally managed process to a rigid and mandatory centrally controlled one.

Note: The director of Rockefeller’s “charity” admitted their goal was to have this new model of education train the populace to be compliant slaves who lacked critical thinking.3

• In the 1960s, one of my relatives was given documents by a group that preceded the World Economic Forum which detailed a global plan to impoverish America so that everyone would willing submit to low paying and backbreaking corporate jobs to get by (e.g., consider Corporate America’s recent vaccine mandates), hence ensuring the American people would be compliant and do whatever the ruling clash wished.

I learned about this as a child and have been astonished to see each part of the plan, such as removing critical thinking from American education gradually come to pass.

• Individuals at elite schools the ruling class sends their children to have repeatedly shared with me that the educational process there is very different (e.g., it fosters critical thinking).

• Award-winning teacher, John Gatto, extensively wrote about how American education had been transformed4 so that when children were in the prime of their life to learn and develop their own identities, they were instead locked into a rigid and sterile environment that disconnected them from all the interactions and experiences of life that allowed them to develop their own identities and become highly functional members of society.

Likewise, Ivan Illich made the salient observation5 that once people are “taught” within a rigid framework, they lose much of their inherent capacity to “learn.”

Counterproductive Cognitive Algorithms

Two approaches are often used to solve problems:

• “Right Brain” thinking — Engage the creative capacities of the brain (and unconsciousness), be able to see the broad picture in front of you, and then be able to arrive at an innovative solution to the problem you are facing. This allows immense insights to be gained, but simultaneously, those predisposed to it often struggle to address the practical day to day needs we face.

• “Left Brain” thinking — Memorize a series of lists, hyperfocus on a few reductionistic details, and then forcefully execute a chain of logic or algorithm that utilizes those lists to come up with a solution. This is effective at getting necessary things done but frequently locks the user into being unable to see critical details outside of their framework.

Note: I’ve also observed that the widespread neurological damage from mass vaccination predisposes those injured to left brained thinking.

Many in turn have argued excessive left brain thinking (which schooling drills into us) is the root cause of many ills in our society. I agree and believe balanced left and right brain thinking is essential for our society (e.g., this is why I try to show both the forest and trees while I write).

The problem with left brain thinking is that it tends to lock one into a “solution” which excludes the best answer from being considered. For example, in medicine, I frequently see brilliant doctors who are remarkably skilled at executing their clinical algorithms but cannot help patients their algorithms simply aren’t applicable for.

Likewise, I’ve lost count of how many people I’ve debated with whose logic starts from the premise there is no conceivable way any viewpoint besides their own could be right (which inevitably results in them concocting absurd arguments).

Debating Cognitive Algorithms

I’ve gotten into more debates than I can count with ardent defenders of the orthodoxy. In each case, I’ve noticed three salient features:

1. Their arguments are extremely repetitive, to the point I often can predict over 90% of what they will say by the time they finish their first few sentences (which is why I always subtly approach the argument from an angle they are not expecting rather than directly confront them). Remarkably, whenever I question them about this, they have little to no recognition they are regurgitating someone else’s talking points.

Note: Somewhat analogously, when patients see specific specialists (e.g., a neurologist) we can predict with high accuracy give or take everything the specialist will tell them.

2. Frequently when they engage these scripts, to varying degrees they disassociate and enter a hypnotic state where they lose awareness of many things outside the immediate point they are discussing — especially if they are confronted with evidence that overtly disproves their existing belief system.

3. Typically, the “algorithm” they follow is to quickly scan through everything you present to them until they find something that can attack (e.g., because they already know a script for attacking it) at which point, they become unable to see the rest of your argument and hyper focus on their point of attack.

In short, their focus is not on discerning what is true, but rather on finding a way to prove they are “right.” One of the most important things about this phenomenon is that, typically, the more educated or intellectually intelligent people are, the more aggressively and reflexively they do this.

Gen Z is Quiet Quitting Higher Education for Trade Schools

The young men and women of this country want life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. They are beginning to chart a new course that doesn’t include indoctrination programs from elite colleges and universities.

Early last year, The Independent Review published an intriguing article: Hyperpoliticization of Higher Ed Trends in Faculty Political Ideology, 1969–Present.

The authors, Phillip W. Magness (senior research faculty and director of research and education at the American Institute for Economic Research) and David Waugh (managing editor at the American Institute for Economic Research), assessed complex data obtained from surveys that evaluated the political views of higher education faculty [e.g., Carnegie Commission on Higher Education Faculty Survey (1969–1984), UCLA-Higher Education Research Institute Faculty Survey (1989–2016)]. The information confirms trends that Legal Insurrection has long noted: Since 2001, 2001 higher education faculty positions have taken a hard, and “professors on the political left are now approaching a supermajority.”

While their findings are interesting, a question they pose about the future consequences of this development is prescient.

A hyperpoliticized academy does not bode well for students, faculty, or anyone interested in serious learning. For many students and for an increasing share of the general public, this has turned the educational experience from one of intellectual pursuit into pure activist sophistry. The only remaining question, then, is how long the public will continue to pay for a university system that no longer aligns with its values or educational priorities.

The answer is: Not much longer.

Unfortunately for the leftists dominating American higher education today, graduating students still have to earn a living. So, Gen Z is beginning to vote with its feet and is opting for 2-year trade schools free of hyped-up moral outrage and outrageous expenses.

Community colleges offering vocational programs witnessed one of the highest numbers of student enrollment in fall 2023, as students opting for higher education showed a slight improvement overall from declines seen during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to data from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center.

Those community colleges with a focus on vocational programs saw registrations climb 16 percent, an increase of 112,000 students, substantially higher than the rate seen before COVID, when it rose 3.7 percent. Associate degree programs jumped more than 2.2 percent, to 96,000 students.

The interest in vocational education began to see increases in sign-ups going back to three years ago, Jennifer Causey, senior research associate at the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, told Newsweek.

“Since Fall 2021, vocational programs have started to see upticks in enrollments, and specific program families such as Mechanic Repair Technologies grew 11.2 percent this fall alone,” she said.

Harvard cancels over 30 courses; far-left History & Literature classes hardest hit

Harvard has canceled over 30 fall semester courses encompassing 20 departments, but the History and Literature department took it on the chin the hardest.

According to The Crimson, Hist-Lit Director of Studies Lauren Kaminsky said class offerings dropped from 19 to 13 classes after five lecturers either departed or chose to do something else.

The canceled Hist-Lit courses include “British Soft Power from Shakespeare to Dua Lipa,” “Marx at the Mall: Consumer Culture & Its Critics,” “Global Transgender Histories,” “Indigenous Genders and Sexualities in North America,” “The Making of Race across Latin America,” and “Global Histories of Capitalism.”

The course description for “Global Transgender Histories” noted students “will become familiar with some of the global vocabulary of gender identities beyond the binary and will understand the historical impacts of phenomena such as racism, imperialism, and [the] medicalization on gender identities.”

Students also would’ve “discovered” the diversity of “gender-variant people” via “religious texts, poetry, art, legal cases, travelogues, newspapers, films […] and oral histories.”

In “Indigenous Genders and Sexualities in North America,” students would have gained knowledge about the “foundations of settler colonialism” and the “resistance to it” via “poetry, memoir, speculative fiction [and] media.”

They also would “interrogate” various works in order to grasp “the anxieties, joys, and power that arise when Indigenous people embrace their bodies.”

For example, for Thomas Aquinas College in California the guide says the following in explaining why it lists it as a “great option.”

The mission of Thomas Aquinas College (TAC) is to renew “what is best in the Western intellectual heritage and to [conduct] liberal education under the guiding light of the Catholic faith.” TAC has an impressive “A+” rating from the American Council of Trustees and Alumni. It does not have a bias response team, nor does it require diversity statements for hiring. It has an impressive 80 percent four-year graduation rate. Thomas Aquinas College also accepts the Classical Learning Test for admission.

Meanwhile, the guide says the following in giving Cornell University, Duke, Brown, Harvard, and Tufts a “not recommended” status:

These universities exhibit a pervasive hostility toward diverse viewpoints and lack robust core curricular requirements, undermining a well-rounded education. These institutions are often heavily influenced by ideologically driven administration agendas and DEI bureaucracies, frequently resulting in limitations on freedom of expression. Moreover, these universities typically demonstrate weak returns on investment, evidenced by lower graduation rates and diminished post-graduation income, making them less favorable choices for students seeking both intellectual rigor and long-term success.

A growing number of high-school seniors in the North are making an unexpected choice for college: They are heading to Clemson, Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Alabama, and other universities in the South.

Students say they are searching for the fun and school spirit emanating from the South on their social-media feeds. Their parents cite lower tuition and less debt, and warmer weather. College counselors also say many teens are eager to trade the political polarization ripping apart campuses in New England and New York for the sense of community epitomized by the South’s football Saturdays. Promising job prospects after graduation can sweeten the pot.

At the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, 11% of students came from the Northeast in 2022, compared with less than 1% two decades prior.

When I moved to North Carolina, it was the South. All the northerners came in and the big cities like Charlotte, Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and the like became liberal magnets. When I first got there, people would let you into traffic. Now, it’s like driving in Manhattan, or Florida. I left Florida to get away from the rude Northerners who ruined that place also.

Worst of all, they vote for all the policies that ruined their liberal states. I can’t believe that NC is a toss-up in the current election. It used to be a reliable red state.

I’ve moved now back to the South by leaving NC, but I see the damage that is done. Don’t come here and ruin the rest of the good part of the country.

I will say that western NC is still mostly pure, except Asheville. That is more like California, also leftarded.

…and then just yesterday, MIT became the first major university to reveal the ethnic composition of its incoming undergraduate class since SCOTUS ruled against affirmative action last year. Unsurprisingly, asians showed a large (7%) gain, while blacks (-10%) and hispanics (-5) saw large drops. Whites were not impacted. See the black line plummet:

What strategies do you use to maintain your health and well-being?

Before I start, I’m betting that people who read my blog have better answers than me. It’s usually the case. I enjoy the comments and it’s eye-opening.

I was a martial artist for years. I learned that you need balance in your life. Mine are Spirit, Mind and Body. I guess I knew it all along, but that experience put words to it.

For Spirit, you need a relationship with God at the forgiveness level. Others believe in their own thing.

For Mind, I take University classes, write extensively, and keep learning. I try to find patterns and opportunities as they present themselves to me in life. You have to challenge your mind or it will become stale. I also learn foreign languages from the dreaded Duolingo.

For Body, I work out six days a week. I bike the mountains, lift weights, Tai Chi, golf and keep myself moving. If you don’t, your body starts the process of decay. At my age, it’s already happening.

The other thing I do is stay away from people who make my life miserable. I don’t have that much time left and spending it with those who are unpleasant isn’t worth it.

The president of the country’s largest teachers union was mocked for a “totally unhinged” speech in which she shouted about winning “all the things.”

Becky Pringle, president of the National Education Association (NEA), banged on the podium, waved her arms, and laughed out loud as she shouted about social justice last week at the union’s Annual Meeting and Representative Assembly in Philadelphia.

“With determination and defiance, we will protect public education,” she said. “We will fight privatization. We will fight vouchers. We will fight any and all schemes to drain resources from our beloved public schools!”

For the record, private schools and vouchers for kids to get them to a better school have proven to provide a better education. Public schools teach to the lowest level.

This is about money, power and control. She even says so without realizing it.

Duke Believes White People Are Racist

Note: I lived near there for decades. The Duke grads were no different and just as biased and sanctimonious as any Ivy League school. That should have been a compliment, but given the gutter that those schools chose to live in, they offer social indoctrination, not education. At work, if someone started with the college degree talk, we knew to avoid their ideas and input. They’ve let woke ideas ruin both faculty and students under the cabana of social justice.

Stick to basketball, you used to be good at it.

Some precepts are inviolate, non-negotiable, and irreplaceable. America’s preeminent precept was penned by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence: “all men are created equal.” At Gettysburg, Abraham Lincoln reiterated this core belief: “Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.” It justified the Civil War. Equality of its individuals was America’s foundational proclamation. Martin Luther King, Jr. appealed to it in his “I Have A Dream” speech: “When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir.”

However, Duke advocates replacing the equality of American individuals for the equality of American groups– calling it “equity.” Substituting equity for equality is a paradigm shift and a clash of visions. Individuals are equal, groups are not. The question I posed to Duke setting me at odds with them (and they with me) was: “Please explain why equity is preferable to equality.” Duke refused to answer despite inviting any “questions or concerns” employees had regarding their “Pledge” of allegiance to equity rather than equality. My repeated question given in person and in writing went repeatedly unanswered. Had Duke been forthcoming they would have said something like:

Duke believes white people are racists. The primary (perhaps only) reason Blacks as a group are less wealthy and have poorer health outcomes is due to the unconscious racism of white people. Duke believes Blacks will never be as well off as white people under the American meritocratic system because it primarily advantages whites. The sole hope Blacks have for obtaining economic and health parity is for it to be given to them. We will know when unconscious racism has been overcome when health and financial outcomes among groups are equal.” That is- you are a racist until outcomes are equal.

For Duke, the supposed deleterious effect of unconscious thoughts necessitates ending the free enterprise system because Blacks cannot compete in a free-market economy given that whites are unconscious racists. It is insuperable. Never-mind the median household income for groups in America from top earners down is: Indians, Filipino, Taiwanese, Sri Lankan, Japanese, Malaysian, Chinese, Pakistani, and then White Americans. America is a success story.

Duke is leading us away from the successful melting-pot vision to the dreadfully unsuccessful socialist vision with this single flash of (pseudo)inspiration- “whites are unconscious racists.” What becomes foundational to Duke is not that people are “created equal” but that whites are “unconscious racists.” Duke cultivates a society where black patients should prefer black doctors (because whites are unconsciously killing them) and everyone else should avoid black doctors if hired under DEI (Didn’t Earn It).

The imagined and almost hysterical importance ascribed to unconscious racism [which is unquantifiable and highly suspect] is surely a flimsy pretense for sacrificing your birthright as an American (black, white or any other color). I wouldn’t be bamboozled, cowed or silenced by this tulip bulb mania which is bound to collapse. They claim unconscious racism justifies collectivism and a “fundamental transformation” to the American experiment. But unconscious racism is a modern day witch-hunt: “Prove you are not a witch/racist.” People should be judged by their words and deeds only, not by mental telepathists who presume to read your mind- sheer absurdity.

Duke further promotes group collectivism through social justice. Why do we need “social” justice? Does justice need a modifier? Why not simply treat each individual with justice- period? Justice means giving each person what he or she deserves. But Duke wishes you to think collectively, not individually, therefore they talk of social justice for groups rather than of justice for individuals. Treating each individual justly will ensure social justice. All justice is social. A person on a deserted island can be neither just nor unjust.

Americans don’t want equity, we want equality. We don’t want social justice, we want justice. Socialists, collectivists, and Marxists aim for equity and social justice whose end is poverty and subjugation. Classical Liberalists, free-marketers, and individualists aim after equality and justice whose end is prosperity and freedom.

Resist the collectivists. Resist the socialists. Resist the cultural Marxists (with their oppressor/oppressed model feverishly fomented by Marx in his Communist Manifesto and parroted by Duke). Every time they say “equity,” you say “equality” twice as loud.

Don’t let them use the blighted, unscientific slander of “unconscious racism” to shoehorn socialism into society. Yes, it’s unscientific. When I asked Duke for the clinical/scientific data used for asserting “racism is a public health crisis,” they had none (Zero) despite earlier claims. They backtracked saying they relied on “social science” data. I have social science data Duke probably doesn’t want to hear. Of course there was no clinical data. It’s not a scientifically provable hypothesis but a failed political ideology.

Duke refused to answer because equity is based wholly on their belief in the unconscious racism of white people- a pretentious, dubious, insulting, and risible pretense for wealth redistribution. Here is the last question for Duke on my departure: Is Duke dedicated to the American proposition that all men are created equal, or to the socialist proposition that all groups should be made equal? You can’t serve two masters.

3 in 10 campus ‘pro-Palestine’ protesters had job offer rescinded in past six months: Survey

A recent survey found that 3 in 10 college students or recent graduates had job offers rescinded as a result of their “pro-Palestine” activism.

Intelligent surveyed 672 students or recent college graduates who have engaged in anti-Israel activism and found that 29% of them had a job offer rescinded in the past six months and 55% believe there was bias against them in the hiring process because of their activism.

7 in 10 pro-Palestine activists said they were asked about their protest history during the interview process, according to the survey results.

Intelligent Chief Education and Career Development Advisor Huy Nguyen said that the results are consistent with other studies.

“It’s consistent with another study that we performed where employers expressed concerns that hiring protestors and strongly vocal activists might cause distractions and disruptions in the workplace and negatively impact their workplace,” Nguyen said.

21% of those surveyed also reported negative feedback from potential employers about their activism and 14% either had job offers withdrawn or not extended.

Jewish students across the United States have expressed concern for their safety and suggested school faculty, as well as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, are promoting antisemitic viewpoints that ratchet up the political temperature on campus.

George Washington University student Sabrina Soffer, graduating early as a junior in December, told Fox News Digital that there is no balance of opinions among the faculty. While the school has emphasized diversity, Soffer claimed it is only diversity surrounding a singular idea.

“Students are not learning how to think, but they’re learning about what to think,” she said. “There’s no real academic rigor that surrounds learning how to think. So, they’re just getting pushed to get a grade.”

Soffer said that students spend a significant amount of time being fed “propaganda” on social media, which affirms the notions they are learning in class and keeps them isolated in their own “echo chamber.”

She added that this conduct by faculty and students, in addition to the widespread acceptance of DEI, has turned George Washington into a “concerning” and “dangerous” environment.

“There’s also no respect for American values in terms of, you know, there’s a lot of anti-Western seedlings in the DEI idea as a whole. Binary notions, very false notion of the oppressor and the oppressed, where all White people are oppressors,” Soffer said. “And, you know, Jews just don’t fit into that framework at all. So, they’re pinning, you know, false binary notions on entire societies when they don’t even make any sense.”

Amanda Silberstein, a second-year student at Cornell University, also criticized the actions of faculty and said the ongoing sentiments about Israel and Jews have left her “ostracized and “socially isolated” from classmates.

I imagine a lot of those Jewish families come from a lot of money. Never forget that DEI ruins everything it touches, as does woke. They got the double dose with this anti-antisemitism hate for Israel.

The Most Dangerous People in America: College Professors

American college campuses are permeated with corrupted professors who themselves corrupt students. Without a doubt, college professors are the most dangerous people in America.

They’re not dangerous because they challenge the status quo or encourage their students to think critically. On the contrary, they are dangerous because they encourage impressionable young college students to adhere to the doctrines of the professors they choose without giving them the chance to meaningfully challenge those doctrines.

During the recent pro-Palestinian and pro-Hamas protests on elite college campuses, thousands of students put up tents on private property, commandeered university-owned buildings, defaced private property, and chanted disturbing, antisemitic rhetoric. But while we constantly talk about the actions of the students, we fail to recognize that these students aren’t alone but instead are educated and cheered on by their college professors.

At Columbia University, many of the university’s professors joined the protests, donning orange reflective vests and standing alongside students in protest of Israel and—apparently—in support of the students’ right to free speech. Of course, these professors, like their students, are not constitutional scholars, yet they teach their students that what they’re doing is protected.

The First Amendment does not protect the right to vandalize or trespass on private property, which is what these students were doing, or even make terroristic threats or aid a terrorist organization, which arguably many of these students did. The very idea that there were professors aiding the students in their illegal takeover of the university should sound alarm bells.

Adulting Is Hard These Days, Especially At Universities

No one is teaching. Or, rather, the teachers are teaching the ego-tantrum, validating toddler politics with their own toddler politics. You have to have a cohort of adults to prepare the next cohort of adults. And so here we are. Anyone who objects to you making your encampment on campus a Jew-free zone is obviously a MAGA jerk.

Universities have to teach. Here’s the president of Yale, getting it right:

As a university dedicated to learning and the search for truth, we hold the exchange of ideas and the diversity of viewpoints to be fundamental. To claim control of a shared physical space and to impose an intellectual and ideological litmus test are not in keeping with our bedrock principles and values.

If you don’t put a beverage in my mouth, I’ll die of dehydration. That comes from somewhere. It’s learned behavior, and we should be angrier at the people who taught it than we are at the students who learned it.

Where Was This Teacher When I Was Growing Up?

Michelle Solis, 46, pled no contest after being accused of raping a 14-year-old student on the child’s eighth grade graduation day in 2021.

A press release from District Attorney Mike Ramsey indicated that Solis, who was a 20-year veteran educator, raped the 14-year-old inside a locked classroom on graduation day, Daily Mail reported. Solis also allegedly sent explicit photos to the boy which “made their way back to local parents,” facilitating the investigation by police.

Solis, who was the boy’s teacher at the middle school, “friended” him on Instagram a few weeks prior to his graduation. Records indicate that was the start of her inappropriate relationship in which she allegedly sent him four inappropriate images. Then, on the day of his graduation from Sycamore Junior High School in northern California, she raped him.”

DEI Ruins A Top High School

The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (also known as “TJ”) is one of the highest-ranking high schools in the country.

Unfortunately, several years ago, the Fairfax County, Virginia, school board ditched traditional standardized tests and admission selections based on the best students available and moved to an “equity” formula designed to boost admissions for middle school students identifying as racial minorities.

This caused the percentage of Asian students to drop precipitously, leading to federal court litigation asserting a violation of the United States Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause.

[Equity-based admissions] practices at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (“TJ”) has now resulted in a lawsuit filed by the Pacific Legal Foundation. AP reports:

Located in the suburbs of the nation’s capital, the school is frequently ranked as the best in the country, and families plan for years to try to help their children gain admission.

The student body is 70% Asian American, with minuscule numbers of Black and Hispanic students.

The Fairfax County school board voted last year to revise the admissions process and eliminate a standardized test that had been a key part of the evaluation process. It also set aside a specific number of slots for students at each of the middle schools in the county.

Board members have said they hope the new process increases Black and Hispanic representation in the student body.

The lawsuit, though, alleges that the set-asides will end up hurting Asian American families that are clustered in a handful of middle schools that currently send large numbers of students to “TJ,” as the school is known.

Erin Wilcox, a lawyer with the Pacific Legal Foundation, said at a press conference Wednesday that the policies themselves are discriminatory, but the intent is made even more clear by statements from board members who said they want the changes to result in a student body with a racial makeup that matches the county’s demographics.

“The discriminatory intent they’ve shown is intertwined and an inseparable part of the policies they put in place,” Wilcox said.

Write about a time when you didn’t take action but wish you had. What would you do differently?

It’s more than one time, but it’s the same thing. I got asked to do something, go somewhere or be with some people that I shouldn’t have.

It was about setting boundaries. I remember the feeling or not wanting to be there, we’re doing whatever we were doing, saying the things I said or being with the people I was with.

If I had learned to say no, instead of going with the crowd, a lot of things would’ve turned out differently. I would have gotten in a lot less trouble, not done as many stupid things and would have not been in situations I didn’t want to be in.
