How The WNBA Wants To Kill The Golden Goose, Or Incompetence At The Top

I’m not that different from most guys. I like to watch sports. I also hate woke crap. Just let sports be sports.

No one ever gave a tinker’s damn about the WNBA until Caitlin Clark showed up. Even then, the numbers say most watched her team, and the lesbians watched the rest of the league. Girls basketball is tough to watch for those of us who have seen MJ, Bird, Magic, Wilt Chamberlin, Bill Russell and a host of others. They are 2 different games.

The WNBA is closer to boys 10-14 basketball than anything else. Not a one of them can dunk or have the innate ability that MJ, Bird or Magic had. Clark has this. Look at her assist count.

Catilin could be the draw that could save the game, the ratings and help the league make money. Instead, they let the other players beat the hell out of her because she is (was) a rookie, white, straight, Christian, and didn’t fit the mold.

With her out for the season, I, like many others just don’t bother. It’s a waste of time. The game is boring, and she made at least half of a game watchable. I’ve yet to watch a full pro game of hers, although I did watch a college playoff game of hers.

This incompetence starts at the top:

Cathy Engelbert said what about Caitlin Clark?

Some of the most damaging comments – again, what has been alleged by Collier – involve Cathy Engelbert’s alleged complete dismissal of player salary concerns. Which, when you have a looming player strike, is probably not the best approach.

Engelbert allegedly responded that players like Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark should be grateful for their off-court earnings enabled by the WNBA platform.

“Caitlin should be grateful. She makes $16 million off the court, because without the platform that the WNBA gives her, she wouldn’t make anything,” Engelbert said, according to Collier.

“In that same conversation, she told me, players should be on their knees thanking their lucky stars for the media rights deal that I got them,” the Lynx star continued. “That’s [the] mentality driving our league from the top.”

Holy smokes. If there is a more tone deaf statement about the WNBA out there than that, you’d be hard-pressed to find it.

Players like Clark and Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese didn’t rake in millions because of their play in the WNBA. They raked in millions because of their college play and the ensuing rivalry that began there.

And they only made that cash by leveraging other opportunities – Reese’s podcast success and deal with Reebok, and Clark’s Nike deals come to mind. Other, lesser-known players aren’t getting those kinds of off-court contracts and still have to plod their way through a WNBA season while getting paid roughly $75,000/year.

I stopped watching a lot of things that are boring or woke. The WNBA gets a two-fer on this.

While not a Bud Light tactic, the result is the same, kill the product’s sales.

The opportunity of a lifetime dropped in Englebert’s lap and she’s throwing it away. People flocked to the Lakers to see Kobe (not Lebron), the Bulls to see MJ, Bird vs Magic, or Stef Curry shoot. The league highlighted them and called fouls that were fouls.

As soon as I heard Caitlin was out, I and tons of others won’t bother turning it on until she comes back.

So she thinks Caitlin is lucky to be playing. The WNBA is lucky that she is playing, and hopefully will come back just as good. If they continue to let others hack her with cheap fouls, it will go back to the high school game that the WNBA has been all along.

It’s called Marketing. She should pay attention to it.

We go back to the crowds of 2 years ago before Caitlin Clark got drafted. We’ll get to see now if people care about the sport or come to watch Clark.

Clark, the greatest shooter in the game, has been hampered this year by injuries, another worthless coach, a completely dysfunctional league, and referees who stand by idly as the leagues super-star is clobbered, pushed, assaulted, and pounded on in game after game.

A WNBA game between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries was interrupted on Tuesday night after a bizarre object was thrown on to the floor late in the fourth quarter.

The Valkyries had rebounded a miss with about one minute left in the game when the object flew from the stands and down onto the court. The object bounced a few times away from the ballhandler and then toward the near sideline.

Ice Cube and his BIG3 basketball league offered a $5 million contract to Indiana Fever phenom Caitlin Clark for her to come play for the new operation, with Clark turning down the deal ultimately. But if you thought that would open up a massive payday for her loud-mouthed rival Angel Reese, you ended up being wrong — way wrong.

TMZ Sports happened to chop it up with Cube recently while he was at LAX, questioning if there were any plans to make Reese a similar offer to Clark’s. Cube stressed that he doesn’t have a problem whatsoever with Reese, but he was completely honest about the BIG3’s sponsors and their ability to be able to make the Chicago Sky superstar such an offer. Per Cube, the sponsors believe Clark would bring in a ton of money for the league, but “they didn’t tell us the same thing about Angel Reese.”

The legendary rapper closed out by saying, “I don’t know if we can make that same offer.”

WNBA Hits New Level Of Embarrassment After Game Stops Over … Wig?

The biggest joke of a sports league keeps getting to be more of a joke, even with a bonified superstar, Caitlin Clark, whom they beat the shit out of every game.

Despite having Indiana Fever phenom Caitlin Clark and her heated rivalry with Chicago Sky superstar Angel Reese, the WNBA is a league that you just can’t take seriously considering how dysfunctional it is.

Just look at what happened Sunday in the game between the Phoenix Mercury and Washington Mystics that ended up temporarily halting action. A player lost their wig, and it led to an incredible amount of embarrassment, and yes, more than just stopping the contest.

The player in question was Mercury guard Kahleah Copper, who grabbed her wig and then sprinted off the court back to the locker room. Copper’s wig fell off after being snatched by her teammate Jade Melbourne, who was attempting to get over on a screen.

They also ranked her the 9th best guard. She’s already better than almost all of them and the records fall quickly.

I’m not saying give her special protection, but give her some. They are taking cheap shots at her and She’s been injured this season. Guess what? the numbers for game attendance are down when she’s not playing.

The WNBA is a racist bunch of children that didn’t get their way because Clark is the great white hope, not the expected black.

They were nothing before Clark and they should do more to act like a professional sports league, not a babysitting service for uppity children.

Black racism is bigger than basketball

Some black players are upset because Caitlin Clark is such an outstanding performer on the court: how dare a white, straight woman be competition to the black players? The basketball court has always been primarily their domain. And the black community which sees itself as victims doesn’t realize that they are putting themselves in this pitiful position, all by themselves.

Caitlin Clark isn’t afraid to speak out against this vicious behavior:

‘Nobody in our league should be facing any sort of racism, hurtful, disrespectful, hateful comments, and threats,’ Clark said. ‘Those aren’t fans, those are trolls, and it’s a real disservice to the people in our league, the organization and the WNBA.’

The WNBA launched another investigation into alleged racism toward Angel Reese, who portrays herself as Clark’s chief rival. Once again, the league found nothing. Angel Smollett struck again.

Add that to the growing list of hoaxes in the world of sports.

Meanwhile, there are actual examples of racism in the WNBA. Days after Reese appeared to lie to reporters about the alleged racist chants, she shared a TikTok video mocking Clark as a little ‘white girl afraid to catch a fade’ with a photo of Reese trying to fight her.

Last Thursday, Brittney Griner appeared to utter ‘Trash, fucking white girl’ from the bench of a game against the Fever.

Well … Caitlin Clark has found herself an ally.

Porn star Kendra Lust wasn’t a fan whatsoever of what happened Tuesday night with Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark, as the phenom was popped in the eye and blasted down on the court in the blowout victory over the Connecticut Sun.

Sun guard Marina Mabrey was the one who clobbered Clark to the ground, but despite that, referees only slapped her with a technical foul when she clearly should’ve been ejected. Clark was also dished a technical foul for pretty much defending herself, and Connecticut guard Jacy Sheldon was also given a tech for getting Clark in the eye.

If You Have To Apologize For Being Racist, You’re Probably Racist, Even If Black – BWBB

So, a pseudo-racism controversy so predictably nonexistent that you could have called it the moment it began percolating turns out to be nonexistent. You’re an ESPN commentator and you cosigned the existence of the controversy on-air. In fact, your comments have basically become the face of the controversy in sports media.

How do you apologize? Well, in this case, you use the second-most cowardly way for a public figure to back out of stupid remarks.

The first, by a mile, is, “Sorry my point was misunderstood.” Which is to say, the onus is on you: Sorry you lacked the discernment to understand what I actually meant to say, and instead took what I actually said at face value. That still remains the undisputed champion of the terrible public apology.

But second place, albeit a distant second, was trotted out by ESPN’s Chiney Ogwumike after she unfairly maligned the entire Indiana Fever fan base as racists: “Sorry that my message was in the heat of the moment.”

She’s 60 now and had such a hard life. She went to elite schools, has 3 multi-million dollar houses, and has sponged off of the American taxpayers for the last 17 years.

How insufferable can Michelle Obama get? I suppose it makes sense — her fame has always been tied to her husband, and now she’s grappling with the fact that she’s no longer the center of attention. Her attempt to stay relevant, like that flop of a podcast with her brother, hasn’t exactly set the world on fire.

Michelle “Big Mike” Obama said on her failing podcast that she is very resentful that while she got to live for free in the world’s most famous mansion rent-free for eight years and had many of her meals paid for by the taxpayers, and also had most of her travel costs covered, she still had to use some of her own money for routine food shopping and when she and Obama flew on the taxpayer-provided Air Force One to foreign vacation spots, she had to pay commercial rates to fly her kids with her.

Foul, miserable beast of a “woman.”

Megyn Kelly reminded me: Remember when Obama was being groomed for the presidency and the entire Democrat Party rallied to stuff money in his pockets? For Michelle, the corrupt Chicago Democrat Machine phonied-up a fake sinecure for Michelle supposedly working for a hospital. She was paid $200,000 per year or something like that, despite being a very average, no-account (DEI) lawyer.

And yet she complains. She wasn’t given enough free stuff and enough corrupt money. It’s racist that she wasn’t given more.

So once again Michelle Obama, you are the asshole of the week.

Caitlin Clark, Rookie Of The Year, MVP In TV Ratings

The last sentence below is Angel Reese got one vote. What’s not said is that ratings and ticket sales are only a third of when she and the Indiana Fever are playing. This includes the playoffs which stopped being interesting to the country when the Fever were eliminated.

She is the show that people for the first time want to watch in the WNBA. She was cheap shot fouled all year and was trashed racially and sexually for being a straight white girl. The top racist was Dawn Staley, coach of U of South Carolina.

She played through it and got the reward, along with many records set. I hope the WNBA stops cutting its’ own throat and promotes her for the league’s sake, even if she doesn’t fit the mold and likes guys.

Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark was named the WNBA Rookie of the Year, the league said on Thursday, receiving 66 of 67 votes from a U.S. panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

Television viewership records were smashed as sharpshooter Clark beat the all-time collegiate scoring record in her final year at Iowa, turning the sport of basketball on its head.

She kept the momentum going in a breakout debut year in the WNBA, setting the single-season record with 337 assists and the all-time rookie records of 769 points and 122 three pointers made.

Clark helped lead the Fever to their first playoffs appearance since 2016, where they lost 2-0 in the best-of-three first round to the Connecticut Sun.

“Thank you to the many people who have supported me as I’ve been able to live my childhood dream,” Clark said in an Instagram post on Wednesday. “I’m filled with gratitude as I reflect on this past year of my life.”

It was the second year in a row that a Fever player brought home the Rookie of the Year honor after Aliyah Boston won in 2023.

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark continues to cement her marquee status despite being the target of race-hustling trash talk and flagrant fouls.

On Sunday, the rookie sensation helped the WNBA score its biggest TV audience in 23 years, as a whopping 2.25 million viewers tuned in to watch the Fever defeat the Chicago Sky, CBS Sports announced.

That’s a 225 percent increase in viewership from the same time last year.

“The Caitlin Clark-led Fever have now played in each of the five most-watched WNBA games since 2002, with two of those five matchups coming against Chicago,” Sports Media Watch reported.

The WNBA announced that in May, it had its highest-attended opening in 26 years and its most-watched season opener ever across all networks that aired its games.

The league also boasted that it had set records for merchandise sales, social media engagement, app downloads and league pass subscriptions — with triple-digit spikes across all categories.

More than half of all WNBA games last month were sellouts — an astonishing 156 percent increase from last year, the league said.
