What was the hardest personal goal you’ve set for yourself?

Either my third-degree black belt in karate, or the hundred-mile bicycle race, while climbing in the Blue Ridge mountains.

  1. Financial security with health benefits, steady reliable income, kids all gone and independent, the MA degree with a teacher’s license, and a single-digit handicap by the time I reached 50.

Made it, too, ‘cept for one 60-yr-old daughter who needs periodic financial help.  Also have no alimony, no debt, no mortgage, and a good dog.

    It don’t git no better’n’at.

Do wish I’d taken better care of my teeth, tho, and hadn’t picked up the smoking habit.  Never did get to stand on the Acropolis, or see the pyramids up close & personal, or tread on the auld sod. And the Colosseum was NASTY when I went to see it, with feral cats and hookers. And the Pantheon was closed to visitors. Otherwise, c’etait bien. Japan was great, and so was Singapore. Hawai’i is overrated. Really good golf courses on the military bases, tho.

Did visit over a dozen and a half foreign countries, tho, and still wear 34-waist Wranglers.  Not bad for an ol’ country boy from Duroc, corn, & soybean country.

HATE the osteoarthritis, and kinda wish my hair and eyesight hadn’t jumped ship.  But, a lotta guys never have an opportunity to lament the ravages of octogenerianism, so . . . .
